I bought my 1947 Willys CJ-2A from a friend in September 2021. When I first got it, I hoped that with a little work on the brakes, changing the oil and add a seat I would be able to get it started and then I would repair and replace as time and money allowed. Well, that was not to be. The engine, although it was not stuck, had no compression on two cylinders. In fact, the #4 piston was in four sections. So, I made the decision to go deep, full frame-off restoration. Three years, lots of parts and more hours than I could count, I have arrived here, a (nearly complete) CJ-2A. I had the engine rebuilt, new brakes, brake lines, master cylinder, front and rear wheel bearings, shocks, springs, a little frame repair, new fuel line, rebuilt carburetor, new tub, new windshield frames, new glass. instrument cluster, new steering box bearings, new smaller steering wheel, seat covers, headlights, taillights, hundreds of smaller parts, screws and bolts.
I have named the Jeep “Big Boy” after my late older brother who taught me to drive a standard on a 49’ CJ-3A when I was 13. After that experience, I always wanted a flat fender, Jeep.
