One-Off 2011 Ferrari SP30 Berlinetta Headed For Auction

By the end of the 20th century, the art of coachbuilding seemed to have vanished into history. Gone were the days when one could order a bespoke body for a chassis purchased from a reputable manufacturer, tailored to individual specifications and desires. Mass-produced luxury vehicles dominated the market, leaving little room for personalized craftsmanship. However, a resurgence of interest in bespoke automobiles emerged with the dawn of the 21st century.

This resurgence has led to Ferrari establishing the Special Projects division in 2008. Ferrari’s Special Projects division offered Ferrari’s elite clientele the opportunity to collaborate directly with the marque’s designers to realize their automotive fantasies. While adhering to certain technical requirements for road legality, customers were given unprecedented creative freedom to shape the design of their one-off Ferraris.

One such extraordinary creation is the SP30 which is scheduled for auction on Bonhams’ upcoming Miami  auction. Based on the chassis and drivetrain of the 599 GTO, the SP30 largely disappeared from public view after its launch in 2011.

Originally commissioned by an Indian industrialist in the UAE, the car found its way to the United States following legal complications. Its distinctive body draws inspiration from various Ferrari models, with unique features such as winglets and speedster-esque humps at the rear, and 599 taillights adding to its exclusivity. The headlights are sourced from a 458 Italia, and design elements hint at features later seen in the F12tdf.

Inside, the SP30 showcases a blend of early-decade Ferrari components, with many originating from the 599 GTO and the center infotainment screen donated by the 612 Scaglietti. The interior boasts Ferrari’s signature style, featuring carbon fiber, two-tone gray Alcantara, and red carbon fiber on the handbrake and grab handles. Notably, the SP30 is devoid of carpeted surfaces entirely.

With just 121 miles on the odometer and recent servicing by Ferrari, the SP30 presents a rare opportunity for collectors to acquire a one-off creation. The SP30 is set to hit the auction block on May 4 and is estimated to fetch up to $2,750,000.
