In a recent video from carwow, we get to witness an epic drag race featuring three generations of Ford GT: a 1967 Ford GT40, a 2006 Ford GT, and a 2017 Ford GT. While it’s easy to determine the results of this race, it’s still fun to watch these three line up and see just how better the newer Ford GTs are compared to one of the best classic sports cars ever made: the GT40.
But before you go and watch the video below, let’s check the numbers first starting with the 1967 Ford GT40. It features a 4.7-liter, naturally aspirated V8 producing 310 HP and 331 lb-ft of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission, and the entire car weighs 2,711 lbs. Initially priced at $18,000, the GT40’s value has soared, with prospective buyers now expected to pay over $2.5 million.
Moving on to the 2006 Ford GT, it boasts a 5.4-liter supercharged V8 engine generating 560 HP and 501 lb-ft of torque. Similar to the GT40, it’s rear-wheel drive, but it comes with a 6-speed manual transmission and weighs 3,351 lbs. The GT’s initial cost was around $140,000, but in the used market, it easily exceeds $600,000.
Lastly, the 2017 Ford GT is powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine, delivering 650 HP and 550 lb-ft of torque. Driving the rear wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, it weighs 3,273 lbs, lighter than the second-generation GT. Initially priced at $550,000, the GT’s value has appreciated, and prospective buyers can expect to pay over $1,200,000 in the used market.
