Get This Extremely Rare Open-Top Ford GTX1 Now On Bring A Trailer

Created as a homage to the open-top Ford GT40 X1 from the 1960s, the Ford GTX1 stands as an exceptionally rare targa variant of Ford’s iconic supercar and it is now up for auction on Bring A Trailer.

The open-cockpit version of the Ford GT, was conceived by Ford engineer Kip Ewing as a tribute to the victorious GT40 X-1 from the 1966 24 Hours of Sebring. Ford introduced the GTX1 at the 2005 SEMA Show, and Ewing’s design was entrusted to Mark Gerish of Genaddi Design Group to produce a limited series of roadster conversions, with Ford’s approval.

This Ford GTX1 is the second of what is believed to be fewer than 40 Ford GTs converted to a roadster configuration by Genaddi Design Group in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The car boasts a Mark IV Red finish over black leather and includes features such as a transaxle cooler, stainless steel cat-back exhaust system, staggered-diameter GTX1 SEMA wheels, Genaddi carbon-fiber aero package, a removable carbon-fiber roof panel, scissor doors, hidden rear bumper, rear trunk, backup camera, short-throw shifter, Sparco bucket seats with silver grommets, and a Pioneer touchscreen infotainment system.

Power is delivered by a mid-mounted 5.4L DOHC V8 with a Lysholm screw-type supercharger, air-to-water intercooler, and dry-sump lubrication system for a lower center of gravity. A Ford Performance upgrade, added during the GTX1 build, is reported to have increased output to around 700 horsepower, a notable 150 horsepower boost over the standard GT. The power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a Ricardo six-speed manual transaxle and a helical limited-slip differential.

Now offered with 16,000 miles, this GTX1 presents an extremely rare opportunity for supercar collectors to acquire an exotic custom roadster version of the Ford GT.
