BMW debuts its latest vehicles at Monterey Car Week and Legends of the Autobahn for 2023, showcasing a blend of Motorsport heritage and sustainable direction. The new addition to the electrified M Performance lineup is the 2024 BMW i5 M60 xDrive, boasting 590 horsepower. It makes its North American premiere simultaneously at the BMW Championship PGA golf tournament and Legends of the Autobahn.
Presenting at Legends of the Autobahn:
On August 17, German car enthusiasts gather at Pacific Grove Golf Links for Legends of the Autobahn, a Concours d’Elegance event hosted by BMW Car Club of America, Mercedes-Benz Club of America, and Audi Club of North America. The event features over 300 classic and modern BMWs, including the latest high-performance M products such as M3 CS, M2, XM, X5 M Competition, and X6 M Competition.
BMW i5 M60 xDrive:
The BMW i5 M60 xDrive marks the electrification of the 5 Series, blending advanced technology, sporty design, and BMW’s performance and comfort. With 590 hp, the i5 M60 accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds. The car introduces features like Active Lane Change controlled by eye activation. In-car gaming is also introduced in partnership with AirConsole.
The i5 M60 xDrive is set to be available for purchase in the fourth quarter of 2023, starting at $81,400 plus destination and handling.
BMW iX5 Hydrogen:
The BMW iX5 Hydrogen showcases hydrogen fuel cell technology, combining electric driving benefits with rapid refueling. The vehicle’s hydrogen fuel cell system generates electricity to power the BMW GEN5 electric motor. The iX5 Hydrogen’s performance includes a 168-hp fuel cell and a high-voltage battery for power boosts.
Although the iX5 Hydrogen is not currently for sale, a prototype fleet demonstrates its feasibility and gathers user feedback.
M Models at The Legends of Autobahn:
Legends of the Autobahn also highlights BMW M GmbH’s new high-performance models:
- BMW M3 CS: A limited-edition model with 543 hp, capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds.
- BMW M2: With 453 hp, the M2 accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds with the 6-speed manual transmission.
- BMW XM: The first-ever electrified high-performance offering from BMW M, featuring a plug-in hybrid drivetrain producing up to 644 hp.
- BMW X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition: Updated models with a new V8 engine and modern features.
These models are available for purchase at varying MSRPs, showcasing BMW’s commitment to performance and innovation.
