The BMW X2 has defined the four door coupe crossover and that concept has spread to all four different crossover segments over the years. One of the most successful (in terms of sales) has been the X2. Today BMW is unveiling its latest crossover coupe – the all new 2024 BMW X2. The second-generation model makes its entrance, boasting distinctive design upgrades, enhanced technology, and a larger footprint. It also has a noticeably different, sloping rear design that will likely prove controversial.
Model | MSRP |
X2 xDrive28i | $42,000 + $995 D&H |
X2 M35i xDrive | $51,400 + $995 D&H |
The 2024 BMW X2 will be unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo on October 26, 2023, and will hit the US market in March 2024. Production of the new BMW X2 will take place at the BMW Group Plant Regensburg, which has implemented an advanced digitalized and automated process for vehicle surface inspection, processing, and marking, utilizing AI-controlled robots.
In terms of its design and interior, the BMW X2 showcases a sporty and confident appearance with distinct proportions, lines, and surface treatment. It stands out from the BMW X1 with its unique exterior design and features a modern cockpit with digital innovations like the BMW Curved Display. Additionally, it offers ample interior space.
Compared to its predecessor, the 2024 BMW X2 has grown in size, with an increased length of 7.6 inches, now measuring 179.8 inches. It boasts a longer wheelbase of 106.0 inches (+0.9 inches) and a wider width of 72.6 inches (+0.8 inches). The larger wheels and wider tracks give it a more muscular stance, and its overall height has increased by 2.5 inches to 62.6 inches. These changes result in dynamic proportions, characteristic of a BMW Sports Activity Coupe.
Inside, the new BMW X2 comfortably accommodates five adults, offering increased shoulder and elbow room for both front and rear passengers. Rear-seat knee room has also expanded by one inch, and the rear seats can be folded in a 40:20:40 split configuration. With all seats in use, it provides 25.3 cubic feet of cargo space, which expands to a maximum of 51.7 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded down.
The BMW X2 Design
The all-new X2 boasts a dynamic and confident appearance. Its design features stretched lines and a generous surface treatment with minimal character lines. The roofline flows seamlessly into the rear, creating a sleek coupe-like silhouette. The front end is upright, with pronounced wheel arches and a strong rear presence.
The exterior design of the BMW X2 emphasizes its unique character and distinguishes it from the compact BMW X1. It includes model-specific headlights, redesigned rear lights, and an optional illuminated BMW kidney grille that highlights the exclusivity of the X2.
The BMW X2 M35i xDrive performance model has unique design elements that promise dynamic driving pleasure. The X2 xDrive28i offers an M Sport package with aerodynamic details, and for the first time in a compact BMW model, 21-inch light-alloy wheels are available.
The front end of the BMW X2 features a reinterpretation of the BMW kidney grille and twin headlights, forming an almost hexagonal contour. The optional illuminated kidney grille gives it a distinctive appearance. The model-specific air inlet grille is finished in black high gloss.
The X2’s profile showcases its distinctive proportions with an upright front end, a long hood, raked A-pillars, and a dynamic roofline. Large wheels and black bordering at the lower body edge indicate its robust character. The design is characterized by clean body panel surfaces with minimal lines. The door handles are flush with the body, and the slender side window area features a tweaked Hofmeister kink. Shallow roof rails in black high gloss are available as an option.
The flared wheel arches and muscular shoulders continue to the rear, emphasizing width. The rear design includes character lines, horizontal rear lights, and a bold Gurney-style spoiler for added downforce.
The BMW X2 offers a wide range of exterior colors, including solid and metallic finishes. An M Sport package is available to enhance the dynamic appearance of the X2 xDrive28i.
