~ Sent to us by Christopher Finlayson
This is my original barn find from Connecticut. I found in a barn half covered by a tarpaulin. The last inspection sticker reads 1975. The second owner had just started a salvage yard and originally passed the opportunity to buy it but had a change of heart. He eventually sent his flatbed truck and driver back to buy it after a short phone call to make sure it was still there. He made the purchase during that conversation.
He then had his mechanic make it safe with new suspension, brakes and tires, etc. he was going to use it for parts pickup and delivery but decided he’d had enough cars. He then put it up for sale in front of his salvage yard. Now this is where I came in.
I promised to take a fellow worker home after work as his car was being repaired. This repair took several weeks so it became a daily occurrence till his car was finished. No problem since we both lived in the same town. One day on the way past the new salvage yard there sat the 1962 Willys Station Wagon with a for sale sign on it. I told my coworker I had to have that wagon!
I proceeded to drop him off, I explained to my new wife-to-be what I saw and what my intentions were (happy wife happy life). We both went over, I made the purchase and I became the proud third owner!
