Austin passes resolution to make food truck inspections easier

The Autin City Council recently passed a resolution to send out inspectors to do food truck inspections on site. Previously, food truck owners had to have their trucks towed away for inspection, which led to lost time and money, according to a report by KVUE.

Maria Everett, owner of Ensenada ATX, said the previous system caused her truck to lose between $400 and $500.

« It’s very painful losing money, losing time, losing customers, » Everett told the news outlet. « When we close, they say, ‘Why are you closed?' »

Council member Jose Velasquez said he wants to make it easier for food trucks to get into Austin’s food scene and the resolution is part of that effort.

« It’s time for us to reevaluate our permitting procedures and explore more cost effective, efficient and equitable alternatives that support rather than hinder the growth of our local food truck industry, » Velasquez told the news outlet.
