The Portland City Council approved an emergency ordinance that waives the code that prohibits food trucks from operating in the Central City Plan District. This is part of a two-year food truck pilot program, according to a report by Koin 6.
The plan is meant to revitalize downtown and only applies to food trucks, not food carts.
« Unfortunately, downtown Portland’s food scene has not returned to pre-pandemic levels, so returning workers at some locations have limited dining options … the pilot project before us today aims to fill that gap, » Mingus Mapps, commissioner, said in the report. « The pilot project will contribute to the vitality of some commercial areas, increase the walkability of the Central City Plan District and decrease the need for auto-oriented transportation. »
