The Park Hyatt Saigon Is A Luxurious Jewel Like No Other In The City

Nestled in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City’s bustling District 1, the Park Hyatt Saigon sits on Lam Son Square, a stone’s throw away from the Opera House, and is a genteel reminder of a bygone time. Built in the French colonial style, the hotel is affectionately called The French Mansion, as general manager Frédéric Boulin tells us, and is meant to evoke all the homeliness and grandeur that its nickname signifies. Stepping into the property feels as if you’re entering the exquisitely-appointed home of an exceedingly generous friend—the service is warm and friendly, and the decor also reinforces the feeling of welcome and ease as you move through the space.

The 245-room property is immaculately decorated with artwork from local artists, black-and-white photos showing snapshots of Ho Chi Minh, as well as lush botanical drawings dotting its walls. Of particular note is the magnificent artwork by Vietnamese artist Mai Lam in the chic Park Lounge, which features her signature blooms in gold and silver metallic thread.

Design fanatics will also appreciate the specially ordered secretaires and display cabinets from luxury French furniture makers Laval, adding to the old world charm of the property.

The same attention to detail extends to the rooms as well. Offering views of either the hotel’s garden or the vibrant city, the rooms feature delightfully plush carpets with chinoiserie motifs, white louvred windows, four-poster beds and colonial-style furniture. Thoughtful touches to include local Vietnamese culture in the guest experience also came in the form of decorative items such as the lovely lacquered boxes that were made by local artisans, and cards with local legends and stories that accompanied the turndown service.

To round out your stay, head to Square One, the hotel’s Michelin-selected restaurant, for a sumptuous dining experience. Expertly blending the best of French and Vietnamese cuisine, you can choose to sample classic French dishes such as the Atlantic Dover Sole Meunière or local favourites like the king prawn Vietnamese clay pot served with steamed rice.

Our pick is the delicious Vietnamese Tasting Platter, which offers bite-sized portions of famous street food elevated with premium ingredients, sustainably sourced from around the country. Not to be missed for dessert is the whole roasted pineapple, which is flambéed table-side before being served with a rich coconut ice cream.
