El Berraco Mexican, a seafood restaurant in Tucson, Arizona, claims an influx of food trucks in the area forced him to close one of his locations. Owner Benjmain Galaz said sales dropped 40% after seven food trucks arrived, according to a report by Tucson.com.
« I feel bad for the employees and I feel bad for myself, » Galaz said in the report. « We tried happy hours and specials (to boost business), but it’s impossible to compete with food trucks. »
The city currently has no laws in place regulating food trucks setting up nearby established restaurants as long as the trucks have the right permits and the permission of the property owner.
